The Hamilton Music Wiki was first set up in April 2006. Like Wikipedia, it is an editable ‘wiki’ site, but includes information on Hamilton bands, venues, events, musicians, releases and music stores, both past and present. Now almost 12 years old, the wiki currently contains just short of 2500 pages. We take a look at the history of the wiki, and talk to the initial instigators, Dan Satherley and Gian Perrone, about their inspiration for starting it, its intended purpose, and whether they thought it would still be going 12 years later! 1. Schedule changes on The Meteor Foyer stage * Dbldbl is unwell and cannot play this evening * Glass Shards will now play later, from 10.30 - 11.10 * Pumice will play (again!) from 9.20 - 9.50 Latest Schedule: 2. Presale tickets for tonight are on sale at UTR until midday https://www.undertheradar.co.nz/ticket/7614/Future-City-Festival-2018.utr 3. Wristband exchange Presale tickets holders can collect their wristband from both The Meteor and Nivara Lounge from 6.30pm 4. Doorsales Will be available at both The Meteor (Cash and Eftpos) and Nivara Lounge (Cash only) from 6.30pm ($47.50) Here's another selection of our fave tracks from some of the bands playing this coming weekend! 1. Miss June - Matriarchy The opening lyric 'What part of noooo don't you understand?' and that drumbeat....I mean...come on! Swoooooon! I can't wait to see all the bands this weekend, but the thought of Miss June ripping it at The Meteor on Saturday night is very very exciting indeed. 2. The Scones - Greasy Meal (A Song About Trains) There is nothing not to love about The Scones. The fact that we get them as a full band on Friday night at Nivara Lounge, and then as an acoustic duo (with glockenspiels and other exciting instruments) under the guise of Kitchenette is doubly tremendous. Also, Kitchenette are on Jesee Mulligan's show on RNZ tomorrow afternoon (Thurs) at around 1.10pm...tune in! 3. Being. - High In Mind Delicious lush fuzzy guitar pop from Jasmine Balmer aka Being. who play Fridya night at Nivara Lounge, FFO The Beths, Fazerdaze etc. 4. System Corporation - Dismal Universal Hiss Amazing song, amazing dudes, and from what we hear behind the scenes, the bands second ever live show sounds like it will be quite spectacluar. Do not miss them Saturday night 9.55pm on the main stage at The Meteor! 5. Date Month Year - March Gorgeous pop from one of Hamilton's longest running pop bands. From the symphonic opening through the lovely harmonies, DMY will open proceddings on Friday night at Nivara Lounge, at 6.50pm....get in early!
With a week and three hours to go until #FCF18, we thought it prudent (prudent!) to share with you some of our favourite tracks by each bands performing. Here goes!
1. The Beths - Happy Unhappy A banging and brilliant slice of upbeat guitar pop from one of the countries finest proponents of such a commodity. Just how does The Beths' Elizabeth Stokes manage to cram all those words into such short spaces of time? Who knows...ask her next Friday night perhaps when they close off the Friday night's proceedings at Nivara Lounge. 2. Cowboy Dan - Happiness Maybe it's because I didn't grow up here, but I am a sucker for a rull kiwi accent in a good song. It's a reason I fell in love with Hamilton's The Shrugs about 12 years ago in Sohl bar. Anyhoo, that accent, coupled with a sugar sweet melody and soppy (ish) love song and you have just under three minutes of lovely pop, and I'm not sure how you couldn't dig that if you have ears and a heart. Cowboy Dan play next Friday night at Creative Waikato. 3. Dbldbl - I Did My Best // Worst Auckland-based Dbldbl absolutely slayed at last year's festival with his brand of hiphop leaving jaws on the floor and grins a mile wide, a true surprise for many in the room at Nivara Lounge. There's humour and sincerity in the lyrics, and the beats are what I suspect I should probably describe as dope. Whatever the adjective, heads will be a nodding, steps will be stepped and smiles will be smiled. This year, Dbldbl plays the Foyer Stage at The Meteor late on Saturday, just before The Datsuns take the Main Stage. PS. As I wrote that last line, it dawned on me just how good this year's fest is going to be. Can I say that? Ermagaaaawd. 18 more bands coming up in the next 7 days! PPS. GET TIX NOW! |
