HUPCAST 10 is here in all its double-digited glory. A shortish but very worthwhile listen featuring tracks from GPOGP, Blue Cross, Pixels, The Scones and previews of music from Bandfandango bands Cardio Farce and Closet Octopus! Thanks for listening!
Hamilton punk band Blue Cross play a show at Nivara Lounge this coming Friday July 29th, together with Kitchen's Floor and GPOGP. HUP caught up with Cam Reid to talk about the band’s history, its future plans, the Hamilton music scene and his involvement in Press Gang Records. Go HERE to read more!
Just when you thought we couldn't possibly use HUP to prefix anything else, we present unto thee....the HUPDATE!
No, we aren't hooking up boys and girls with a shared love of little known bands and live rocknroll, not yet anyway. Rather, the HUPDATE is a semi-regular (and highly irregular) email covering all the latest news from the world of Hamilton Underground Press - details about live shows, the latest articles we publish online, and information on the latest zine or podcast. If you have even a smackerel of interest in what we do, it's worth doing. Sign up now by emailing the word 'yes' to [email protected]. In the unlikely but possible event you decide it's not worthwhile and is clogging up your inbox, you can unsubscribe at anytime by clicking the link at the bottom of the email. You know the drill I'm sure. Thanks for reading! HUP caught up with Matt Kennedy of Brisbane band Kitchen’s Floor ahead of their show at Nivara Lounge on July 29th with GPOGP and Blue Cross. Skip over to FEATURES for an insight into how the band has kept creating for the last ten years and the Brisbane scene in 2016.
HUP has a PA system...hoorah! It's nothing flash, 2 x 400W active dB speakers and a small mixer, but it will enable shows to take place pretty much anywhere there's power without breaking the bank. Hit us up if you'd like to arrange to use it! [email protected]
HUPZINE #4 is out today! Huzzah! Available from the usual outlets...Browsers, Mk1 Comics, Auteur House, Rockshop, Grey Gardens Cafe, Recycle Boutique and Duck Island ice Cream. Featuring interviews with three out of town bands who are playing here soon - Jakob from Napier, Kitchen's Floor from Brisbane, and So Laid Back Country China from Wellington, plus Hamilton bands Blue Cross and Punch Monkeys. Also updates on the Bandfandango, gig listings, Htown wiki facts and neat photos by Ngamihi Pawa. All for free. Grab one before they go!
We realise this isn't perhaps the coolest thing to do, but we are genuinely interested in finding out what kinds of things we could do to get more people to the shows we put on. Crowds have been good but there's room for improvement!
Click on the link below to go to our Facebook page. 'Like' the ideas (in the comments below the main post) if they would make a difference to you. If you have the time, mark with a score out of 10, 10 being the most likely to make a difference to get you to a show, 1 being a least likely. If you'd prefer to message rather than post below that's cool too. Be nice, we want make our shows better and more enjoyable for everyone involved - the bands playing and the people paying to come in. Thanks for being arsed enough to have read this far...go one, be brave... Click HERE! to go the survey page.
