With a week and three hours to go until #FCF18, we thought it prudent (prudent!) to share with you some of our favourite tracks by each bands performing. Here goes!
1. The Beths - Happy Unhappy A banging and brilliant slice of upbeat guitar pop from one of the countries finest proponents of such a commodity. Just how does The Beths' Elizabeth Stokes manage to cram all those words into such short spaces of time? Who knows...ask her next Friday night perhaps when they close off the Friday night's proceedings at Nivara Lounge. 2. Cowboy Dan - Happiness Maybe it's because I didn't grow up here, but I am a sucker for a rull kiwi accent in a good song. It's a reason I fell in love with Hamilton's The Shrugs about 12 years ago in Sohl bar. Anyhoo, that accent, coupled with a sugar sweet melody and soppy (ish) love song and you have just under three minutes of lovely pop, and I'm not sure how you couldn't dig that if you have ears and a heart. Cowboy Dan play next Friday night at Creative Waikato. 3. Dbldbl - I Did My Best // Worst Auckland-based Dbldbl absolutely slayed at last year's festival with his brand of hiphop leaving jaws on the floor and grins a mile wide, a true surprise for many in the room at Nivara Lounge. There's humour and sincerity in the lyrics, and the beats are what I suspect I should probably describe as dope. Whatever the adjective, heads will be a nodding, steps will be stepped and smiles will be smiled. This year, Dbldbl plays the Foyer Stage at The Meteor late on Saturday, just before The Datsuns take the Main Stage. PS. As I wrote that last line, it dawned on me just how good this year's fest is going to be. Can I say that? Ermagaaaawd. 18 more bands coming up in the next 7 days! PPS. GET TIX NOW!
