Last night's draw did not take place due to technical difficulties. It was however completed here at HUP HQ this morning, and you can listen to it below and also if you like clicking your mouse more than is entirely necessary, over on the podcast page by clicking here - >>> BANDFANDANGODRAWTYPETHING
Hark! The event that is making Simon Cowell quake in his boots is finally here! Yes, this very evening, at Nivara Lounge, in between some mighty fine bands playing mighty fine sets, the draw for the world's first BANDFANDANGO will take place. Groundbreaking stuff. Tomorrow morning we will have four brand new bands gracing our fair city, and in the next ten weeks those groops will write new material and play it for us all to enjoy sometime in August. Get along to see The Naenae Express, Crows, Hospital Sports and The Halcyon Birds (first band 9pm) and see history being made!
On 27 May, The Naenae Express played Nivara Lounge with Halcyon Birds, Hospital Sports and Crows. We present what may be on one hand a review of HUP’s May gig, or on the other a piece of obsessive fan mail to The Naenae Express. Find it → HERE ← .
In the first in a series of talks with local gig poster designers, Elaine Gyde caught up with Gareth Schott to talk about what a gig poster is to him and a little about how he goes about creating his work. See here to read more!
The latest copy of the HUPZINE is out today! Get yours before they all go - it is now freeeeee! Currently in stock at Browsers, Auteur House, Rockshop, Mark One Comics, JB HiFi (all Hamilton CBD), and at Grey Gardens Cafe, Duck Island Ice Cream and Recycle Boutique in Hamilton East. There will be a few copies available at the show next Friday May 27th at Nivara Lounge too. Why not read it while listening to the latest HUPCAST?! Churrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Behold! HUPCAST 8 is upon us, and contains waffle from me and tracks from some neat bands that are playing at some shows that we have taken it upon ourselves to organise, such as The Naenae Express, Hospital Sports, Crows, The Joint Chiefs, Rumpus Room, Kitchen's Floor, and Blue Cross. See you at the shows Friday May 27 and beyond! You can listen H E R E if you are that way inclined, and I for one hope you are. Enjoy!
Good news! Remember that Bandfandango thingymajig? Well, at the time of typing this, we have enough people to form four brand new bands, possibly five. This has got us preeeeeetty excited! Entries will be taken up to next Sunday and the draw for the bands will be made in the week or so following, possibly (not 100% certain yet!) at our next show on May 27th at Nivara Lounge.
Spread the word, get people into it, it is going to be a whole heap of fun and Htown is about to get a bunch of brand new bands! If you have no idea what a Bandfandango is, check the original post for details by clicking HERE! Originally published in HUPzine 2, we give you our 'lost' Rumpus Room interview! Formed in the mid-1990s, Rumpus Room is centred around three Newth brothers, along with a familially unrelated drummer. We caught up with Scott and Andrew Newth to talk about their history, being in a band with brothers, and curious to know why they haven’t yet released an album. Watch out for their next show on July 8! Find the interview here.
With The Naenae Express the headliners at the next HUP gig at Nivara Lounge on 27 May, we caught up with front-person Scott Kendall to talk about their wonderful EP, and a bit of cricket. Find it here.
