What started out as a 30 page script written in the USA is now the soon to be completed, Hamilton made film, Hacktivists. It’s is a fictional short film about a group of hackers who seek to expose a corrupt trillion dollar company, Globatech, profiting from exploiting citizens and keeping them under complete control. Writer and producer, Andrew Garfield said the concept started when he lived in America and where filming began, and was completed once he moved to Hamilton. “Filming in both locations was important to give it a sense of internationalism as hacktivism is worldwide-interconnected concept.” Being a relatively new concept, hacktivism is a growing phenomenon in the world today. It can be defined as someone or a group who gains unauthorized access to computer files or networks in order to further social or political ends. This film is centered on the restoration of social justice using the Internet as a powerful tool to expose the corporate wrongs and can be likened to international network of online activist known as Anonymous. This is Andrew’s first film and being new to Hamilton was a challenge to get this project completed but it gave a good reason to meet other film enthusiast in the community. “As I had never done a film on this scale before and I have learned so much, especially about visual effects and film scoring which are the two things I am still currently working on,” he said. Creative Waikato will keep you posted on the film release. CREATIVE WAIKATO
