It’s a New Year, and my resolution is to look forward, not backwards, as I feel I have done since the pandemic began. So, it is perfect timing for a new album from Auckland’s synth-heavy Anecdata.

"We play happy sad music, and the live show leans into the happy side." Leighton Edwards and the rest of Cowboy Dan have a lot of happy stuff to talk about: their first ever vinyl release, their first Hamilton gig since 2018, and a new band member. Even when we threw a gloomy conversation starter his way, it went nowhere. Get all the good news straight from the Cowboy's mouth here.
As keyboard player for Bitter Defeat, I’ve sometimes daydreamed about being questioned regarding who my favourite synth player is. I haven’t yet... but if I was pushed for something international, my answer would likely be Vince Clarke (Erasure, Yazoo, early Depeche Mode). We review his new, rather surprising album.
Read the review -> HERE <- It has taken a number of years for Southern Tribe’s debut album, ‘Polyphon’, to come to fruition. What do we think of it?

HUP reviews the astounding debut release from Kirikiriroa-based Mike Alpha Xray, a covers album for the indie head nonetheless. Skip over HERE to read more and listen to Mariachi Mutton Birds and other gems.

This is your big chance to learn the secret to lasting a decade as a band ("none of us are assholes or addicts"), feel bad for not being as useful as Annabel Liddell was during Covid ("I worked 2 and a half years non-stop in the hospital as a surgical house officer"), and find out where and when we can all "expect to feel liberated".
It's all right --> HERE <-- The Changing Same's brand new album came out today, with a launch gig happening on September 30. We were given an early listen to The Changing Same Go To The Movies and you can read what we heard ---> HERE <---
Thanks to a random discovery on Twitter (yes, that hellsite is still good for some things), we review the first EP from indie Dunedin pop-rockers L. Hotel. It's quite good, as you'll learn by reading more --- > HERE <---
‘Mike Alpha Xray’ is likely Hamilton’s biggest fan of the NATO phonetic alphabet and lover of short acrostic poems, but instead harshly describes himself in his self-deprecating press release as “Kirikiriroa’s newest and least essential recording artist”. But we're not having it! Read our review of the teasers by Mike Alpha Xray to his upcoming album.... -> HERE <-
