We catch up with some of the bands playing at this year's FUTURE CITY FESTIVAL. First up is popular Hamilton based band, Cheshire Grimm. Over to Kat, Lora and Craig...
Tell us about Cheshire Grimm! We started in Hamilton in 2012 and its been a rollercoaster ever since – with Kat giving birth to her second child, our original drummer leaving us and Lora moving to Melbourne and commuting to the band long distance – its been whirlwind of crazy times. We’re stoked to have Craig with us who recently joined the band in 2017 and we’re looking forward to recording and releasing some new music very soon. How would you describe your band to someone that hasn’t heard you before? Kat : Groovy alternative grunge rock a.k.a Gloom What is our favourite song to play live? Craig: for me - Slave to the Grind Kat: Our new songs are pretty fun! 'Crooked Smile' and 'So Much For The Summer' Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever been to…(playing or not playing) Combined: Queens of the Stone Age, Rage against the Machine, Roger Waters, Nine in Nails, Tool, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Black Sabbath , Soundgarden, Kyuss . . . . too many to count! Our favourite gig we have played lately was a packed out night at the Yot Club in Raglan – we got the audience to start a conga line and it was awesome. Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Future City 2018? The Datsuns, The Beths, 5 Girls, Glass Shards and Date Month Year. Give us your best Hamilton fact or story! Kat: FACT: Hamilton is made up of dozens of tiny pure bred mosses. Born in a swamp of doom hundreds of years ago, it has now become an expanded, dried up - yet warm and moist - metropolitan oasis. Home now to the mighty bread, milk and rugby cooperations of island region, many anarchists, artists and anti-christs have been released into the wild to destroy all order. Lora: My proudest and most ‘Hamilton’ moment was when someone threw a bottle at me while I was playing at Axces bar. Cheshire Grimm play Future City Festival on Saturday night, March 10, at Nivara Lounge, the same night as The Datsuns. Grab your tickets now over at undertheradar.co.nz
