We’ve gave some questions to bands playing at this year's FUTURE CITY FESTIVAL, and in an act of reciprocity they have given us some answers. In this installment, we hear from Auckland band ‘Miss June’! HUP: Tell us about Miss June! Miss June: Miss June was formed in Auckland by Annabel Liddell (Guitar, Vox), when Tom Leggett (Drums, Backing Vox), Chris Marshall (Bass, loud noises) and Jun Park (Guitar, the image of the band) met up for a jam to help Annabel out for her solo show at Bloodfest. Originally Annabel asked only Tom and Chris to join. However, during the jam they felt they lacked beauty and a graceful front figure. Disappointed, they almost cancelled the show until Jun walked into the room; they then begged him to join due to his handsome looks. HUP: How would you describe your band to someone that hasn’t heard you before? Miss June: Our sound is if Bikini Kill and the Pixies had an illegal love child. Or Anger with a kiss of sadness. HUP: What is our favourite song to play live? Miss June: Our favourite song to play live is Twitch. Which is our next single to be released! HUP: Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever been to…(playing or not playing)
Miss June: One of Jun’s most memorable gig was seeing Miss June live with Michael Howell on guitar at the BFM summer series. HUP: Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Future City 2018? Miss June: We are looking forward to watching The Datsuns and The Beths. Both amazing live bands that represent the NZ music scene proudly. HUP: Give us your best Hamilton fact or story! Miss June: Our best memory of Hamilton is when we were on tour with our Australian friends Hideous Sun Demon and stopped in at Hamilton on the way back from Wellington to eat. We ended up eating at this Kebab joint that looked like a real-life spam/virus/ad. It was a brightly lit store with blue lights everywhere and they had the worst kebab and fries we had ever eaten. They literally microwaved the “meat” and then would chuck it in a dirty wrap with cheese and would then proceed to microwave it again! The middle was still cold and the meat was off. We were all already sick and eating that just pushed us over the edge. However, they did let us choose our own music and charge our phones. 5/7 would go again when drunk.
