We’ve been busy interrogating the bands playing at this year's FUTURE CITY FESTIVAL. In this sitting we extract information from a band that were originally formed in Hamilton, who became well known for a claymation video for a song called ‘Food’; 5 Girls! HUP: Tell us about your 5 Girls! 5 Girls: We are Katrina (drums, vox), Amy (bass and vox) and Vicki (guitar and vox). Now based on the West Coast, from Kawhia/Raglan, we started out playing in the early ‘90s for a few years, before going our own ways. We have just started playing locally again in the last 2 years, and love it more than ever. HUP: How would you describe your band to someone that hasn’t heard you before? 5 Girls: A fine selection of assorted dirty frock n roll tunes. HUP: What is our favourite song to play live? 5 Girls: If we had to choose… Habit, Heavy Metal Heartbeat, Pigfarm and Bill the Bogan. HUP: Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever been to… (playing or not playing) 5 Girls: That is a tough question. There are many years of gigs to think about. Some of the most recently attended highlights have been PJ Harvey, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Supersuckers. Our band practices are extremely entertaining, if that counts as a gig. HUP: Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Future City 2018?
5 Girls: Well, we are keen to hear Cheshire Grimm and System Corporation. It’s a treat to have not heard many of the bands before, and to discover new music. I don’t think any of us have seen The Datsuns play since the days of Trinket, when we were all playing Ward Lane every weekend. HUP: Give us your best Hamilton fact or story! 5 Girls: Although not a fact, we thank Hamilton for our Bogan roots, and fond memories of underground punk rock madness. See also:
