We’ve been asking probing questions of the bands playing at this year's FUTURE CITY FESTIVAL. This time around we extract some information from System Corporation! HUP: Tell us about System Corporation! System Corporation: System Corporation started out when Phil Somervell (The Datsuns) and Scott Newth (Rumpus Room) were discussing some demos that they each had, that were not suitable for their respective bands. So we decided, with Ben Cole (The Datsuns), to start a new collaborative act to see what could become of the demos. It grew from there. Our members are: Phil Somervell (Thames; Guitar), Alan Deare (Hamilton; Bass), Kent Newth (Waitetuna; Guitar), Ben Cole (Wellington; Drums), Andrew Newth (Frankton; Guitar) and Scott Newth (Tamahere, Vocals). HUP: How would you describe your band to someone that hasn’t heard you before? System Corporation: This is a difficult question. We get asked it often, but still cannot answer it. We are not any musical style. You just have to listen for yourself. HUP: What is our favourite song to play live? System Corporation: This is our first show, so come and ask us after we play. I'm sure you'll get six different answers. HUP: Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever been to… (playing or not playing)
System Corporation: This is a tricky question for 6 people who never see each other to answer without a series of emails, text messages, phone calls and personal visits. HUP: Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Future City 2018? System Corporation: The Datsuns. For a multitude of reasons. Mostly because of logistical reasons, we arrive at the festival in time to play and the only other band we will get to see (or be playing in) is The Datsuns. Sorry other bands that we missed you. HUP: Give us your best Hamilton fact or story! System Corporation: When all six of us playing in this version of System Corporation get to Hamilton for Future City, it will be the first time that all 6 of us have met each other in person.
