ABOUT

Hamilton Underground Press (HUP) began life in March 2015 with the aim of nurturing and supporting the indie/alternative music scene in Hamilton, New Zealand. In February 2021 we expanded to embrace the indie/alternative scene across the country, with a raft of new contributors coming on board. Our focus areas are the really interesting stuff, which you might describe as indie, punk, alternative, electronic and folk, but in a nutshell, stuff we like the sound of. We will continue to put on shows here and there, mostly in Hamilton.

HUP is a non-profit organisation. We believe the people doing the real work should get paid – bands, sound engineers, venues. We welcome new contributors who can make what we do better and generally more interesting and enjoyable. That might be writing, drawing, designing, photographing, or even helping out at shows. While we can’t pay you in $ there will be some perks along the way, but the reason we do this is because we love the music, pure and simple. Get in touch if this is you, we’d really like to hear from you!

If you’re a band from outside of Hamilton looking to play here, drop us a line, we can probably help out ourselves, or try and hook you up with someone who can.
