We’ve been getting inside the heads of a few of the bands playing at this year’s FUTURE CITY FESTIVAL. In this round we talk to a The Scones offshoot band with another culinary inspired name, ‘Kitchenette’!

HUP: Tell us about Kitchenette!
Kitchenette: We are Greg (guitar, vocals) and Julian (vocals, melodica, glockenspiel, Casiotone, squeezebox, bodhran). Late last year we were asked to play a brief acoustic set, which we cobbled together. The rest is history.

HUP: How would you describe your band to someone that hasn’t heard you before?
Kitchenette:  Lo-fi pop with harmonies.

HUP: What is our favourite song to play live?
Kitchenette: This will be our second gig. Most of our songs are originals/Scones songs, but I think the most enjoyable one on the night might be Boot Your Car, a cover of an Electric Blood song.

HUP: Tell us about the best gig you’ve ever been to… (playing or not playing)
Kitchenette: Calamari Bushmen, Empire Hotel, Dunedin 1990 (approx.)

HUP: Give us your best Hamilton fact or story!
Kitchenette: There are over 1000 PhD-qualified scientists living and working in Hamilton.
