Around a month ago HUP was contacted and asked if we were keen to help arrange a Hamilton show for legendary Japanese punk band Shonen Knife. What ensued was the email equivalent of the biting off of a hand.
You see, this band has had a place in our hearts since the early nineties when John Peel would frequently play them on his BBC radio show. It was around this time that they toured with relatively unknown up-and-coming noiseniks Nirvana. So, the the thought of them bringing their joyous racket to little old Kirikiriroa was just too tempting, and at the time of typing we are frothing at the proverbial in anticiaption of this coming Wednesday's show. We caught up with founder member, vocalist/guitarist and songwriter Naoko Yamano to ask a few questions! Skip on over to FEATURES to read more!

Imperfect Offering, an Auckland-based Leonard Cohen Tribute, are performing at the Meteor Theatre, Hamilton on Saturday 7 October. The show is part of a North Island tour to commemorate Cohen after his death in November 2016.
There has been huge interest in Cohen's music since he toured NZ in 2009-13 and the nine-piece band, which includes violin and balaika, brings the genuine experience alive. The show is selling very well so get in quick for tickets by following the link HERE! Did you realise that Jamie Strange, Labour Candidate for Hamilton East, had a previous musical career of sorts? Neither did we until recently. Ian Duggan caught up with Jamie to ask a few questions about his previous forays into songwriting, music videos and his subsequent step into politics. 'Koi Division' are a Californian band who describe themselves as “the only Fish Goth Joy Division parody cover band that matters”. After appearing on ‘The A.V. Club’ website a few days ago, the band have rapidly accumulated a shoal of new fans, myself included. I caught up with Ian Clownfish (vocals), Hook (bass, sea synth), Bernard Salmon (guitar) and Steve Moray (drums), for what I expect is their first overseas Q&A session! See there interview -> HERE <-.
We review the new album by 'Dharma Police', called 'It Only Ends Once'. Head over -> HERE <- to read more. A few months back, HUP was alerted to the rarest of occurences....a new local band had formed. Huzzahs and hurrahs thought we. The band called themselves Loudhailer, and they were playing a few gigs in town. I headed over to their Soundcloud for a listen and it was good. More demos dropped in the weeks that followed, and the songs grew on me, having that weird knack of sounding like quite a lot of bands you know and like, but not one in particular. Anyway, I decided to ask a few more questions to find out a little more about one of Hamilton's newest bands. Skip over to FEATURES to read more.
